“The transient nature of nature is what cuts me to my core and makes me breathless. Each butterfly emerging from a chrysalis, each scented flower, each bird’s nest - in a moment, they’ll be gone. We all will. Deeply accepting this makes every little thing a wonder.”

About Amber Dusick

Amber Dusick pieces together story, myth and magic in sustainable wood. Her work explores the theme of women reconnecting with their inner selves, most often in a nature based environment.

Part of her creative process is sourcing colors from her environment.

All of the colors used for wood stains are made from natural minerals, rocks, soils and plants. Many are collected from nature and many of the rocks and soil processed into pigments are collected near her home. All of the plants used for pigments (such as indigo, walnut, goldenrod) are home grown.

The wood in each piece is either FSC (Forest Stewardship Certified) lumber from sustainably managed forests or reclaimed lumber and often a mixture of the two.

Sustainability and earth stewardship are two of her core values. In 2021, she began the Circle of Trees installation, planting a tree for each piece of artwork created. This resulted so far in the planting of over 40 trees, and is becoming an ever evolving natural art installation and habitat.

She has been woodworking since 2006 and ran a natural toy business for several years.

And seemingly unrelated, though nothing ever really is, Amber Dusick is also the creator of CrappyPictures.com and the author of several illustrated humor books.

She lives in rural Wisconsin, on a wildflower prairie that gently slopes down into woods, wetlands and a meandering creek.
