We came across this beached sea lion on the beach last week. He wasn't moving much but was clearly still alive. He kept trying to use his flippers to put sand on himself. I took that as a sign of him needing to get out of the heat. Poor thing.
My friend's mom volunteers for Marine Animal Rescue as a rescue person so I knew there was a number to call for him. Only I didn't have the number.
Fortunately, somebody else did. While I was frantically trying to get an internet connection with my iPhone to look up a number help had arrived. Yay!
Which reminded me...this wasn't the first time I have been in this type of situation. Lost dogs in a panic, dashing in and out of traffic is something I've seen numerous times and I never know who to call for help. Nothing worse than wanting to help but not knowing how.
So I programmed the local animal rescue numbers in my phone. Now I'm prepared. You too can look up your local animal rescue numbers and program them into your phone right now. Or how about the non-emergency police number. Do you have it? Funny how we all probably have a pizza place or delivery place in our phone contacts but not stuff like this. What other numbers might be helpful to have in a moments notice?
