We just got back from another family trip to Las Vegas. Vegas? Why Vegas?
For starters, the best Thai resturant is there. Yep. Lotus of Siam. In a nasty little strip mall. No really, best Thai food ever. And I've had Thai food. I live in Los Angeles and we have great Thai restaurants. Plenty. But none as good as Lotus. My well-traveled friends say the food at this place is just as good as food in Thailand. So since I travel for food I can scratch Thailand off my list. Thank you, Vegas.
You can win stuff! No, we don't gamble but we came home with some winnings. All our coins were spent on Skee-Ball and other games down on the kid's level. We came home with three stuffed dolphins, a stuffed watermelon, a stuffed monkey and a stuffed cow. We won big!
Honestly, the best part of being there was seeing the joy it brought to these two. The last time we went I was pregnant with my youngest and we had just found out I was having a boy. Two boys. Two years later now, and seeing their relationship develop has been more fun than I could have imagined.
We watched them happily share a Vegas themed lollipop in our hotel room after a day of exploring the cheesy tourist spots. Exhausted , we ate Thai takeout on the bed, paired with a German Riesling that we chilled on ice in the bathroom sink. All four of us gazed at the night lights outside our 25th floor window and we slept like rocks each night, with the sounds of the rollercoaster humming away.
This is why we go to Vegas.*
*Okay, that and we can drive there and the hotels are cheap during the week. Next time we won't accidentally go over St. Patricks day. Crowds of crazy, drunk, sunburnt partying people wearing green. Oops.
