I love my camera (Nikon D40X) but he is a hefty guy and the bag he came in is even heftier. Seriously, the Nikon camera bag I was using was like a tank so I never used it, which meant I either didn't take the camera with me or I took my chances carrying it sans bag. So I set out to sew one.
Behold! My newly sewn funky camera bag! Isn't the flamingo print delightfully touristy? I found the fabric in the clearance section for a few bucks a yard and it is super sturdy outdoor canvas. Score! The inner lining is PUL fabric (plastic laminated fabric) so the whole shebang is waterproof which protects it from sippy cup dumping and other dangerous toddler sports.
For the padding, I just used a layer of leftover thrifted felted wool sweater that I got for doing this mouse puppet project. The bag was constructed of just one long rectangle that I folded added layers of felt & PUL, sewed the sides, added the sipper on top and the strap. I'm thinking I'll add a little pocket to the outside to shove the lens cap into when I'm using the camera so I don't lose it.
Next...I think my camera deserves a pretty strap!
